“Walmart Introduces Inclusive Caroline’s Carts Across 11 States”
BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Walmart has introduced new shopping carts designed with accessibility and inclusivity in mind, now available in stores across multiple states.
Called “Caroline’s Carts,” these specially designed carts feature a large seat on the back, making it easier for caregivers of adults and children with disabilities, limited mobility, or injuries to navigate the store. The carts can support between 35 and 250 pounds, providing a practical solution for families and caregivers.
Each Walmart Supercenter will be equipped with two of these carts, while Neighborhood Markets will have at least one, with a total of about 8,000 carts being distributed nationwide.
Walmart announced that Caroline’s Carts will be available in 11 states, including Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.
“Equipping our stores with Caroline’s Carts provides relief to parents and caregivers who need this tool. Whether they’re caring for someone with a disability or a temporary injury, these carts are available to support our customers every time they visit Walmart,” said Cedric Clark, executive vice president of store operations at Walmart.
The carts are part of Walmart’s ongoing effort to create a more inclusive shopping experience. In 2023, the company also reintroduced sensory-friendly hours in its stores from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. daily. During these hours, Walmart provides a calmer shopping environment by turning off music, setting TV monitors to still images, and dimming the lights where possible. Originally intended for the back-to-school season, sensory-friendly hours were made year-round due to positive customer feedback.
Walmart plans to have Caroline’s Carts available in all stores by early 2025.
