Walmart customer’s ‘blood boils’ as she’s ‘followed by secret shopper’ in store – but it’s against chain’s fineprint
According to The Sun, A TikToker has stirred up debate by accusing a fellow Walmart customer of being a so-called secret shopper, a claim that led to an awkward interaction and left her feeling justified in her actions. The video, shared by Quari and Jasmine (@cohenfamily2013), garnered over 100,000 likes as viewers weighed in on whether Jasmine was in the right.
The Incident
During a recent shopping trip, Jasmine filmed a woman standing just a few feet away and boldly accused her of being a secret shopper. As the woman remained silent and refused to acknowledge Jasmine, she interpreted this as confirmation of her suspicions, stating, “She’s ignoring me because she knows she’s a secret shopper.”
At the end of the video, Jasmine acknowledged that her husband was embarrassed by her outburst and asked her followers, “Was I right or was I wrong?” Quari, visibly upset, urged his wife to move on and complete their shopping.
Social Media Reaction
The TikTok community reacted fiercely, with many users criticizing Jasmine for her behavior. Comments flooded in, siding with her husband, as viewers expressed their discomfort on his behalf. “He’s embarrassed and rightfully so,” one commenter noted, while another added, “Just finish your shopping and get out. I feel the second-hand embarrassment for him.”
However, some TikTok users supported Jasmine, arguing that the woman’s silence suggested she was indeed working undercover. “I feel like her not saying anything and ignoring you just gave it away,” one user remarked, while another stated, “You literally weren’t wrong.”
Walmart’s Policy on Secret Shoppers
In light of the controversy, The U.S. Sun reached out to Walmart for clarification. According to the retailer’s official website, Walmart does not employ secret shopping programs. “Walmart does not utilize these services or hire associates to perform services on behalf of other retailers or companies,” the site states.
Walmart also cautions that while secret shoppers can provide valuable feedback for businesses, scammers often exploit such programs to defraud consumers. “Scammers take advantage of these types of programs by sending fraudulent solicitations via mail, text, or email to entice consumers to evaluate the retail experience,” the website warns. In one notable case, a woman lost $4,000 after signing up for a fake secret shopping program.
