Victims Identified in Fatal Texas Highway Crash: Five Dead, Nine Injured
According to People, Authorities in Texas have identified the victims of a tragic crash on a Texas highway that claimed the lives of five people and left nine others injured. The incident occurred just before 8 a.m. local time on Wednesday, August 28, on the northbound side of US-287 in Alvord, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), as reported by PEOPLE.
The group, traveling from Florida to New Mexico in a white van, veered off the left side of the roadway, causing the vehicle to roll over. The crash resulted in the immediate deaths of three men, including the driver: 46-year-old Diony Antoine, 42-year-old JN Irard Vixamar, and 36-year-old Ledene Pierre-Louis.
A 28-year-old woman, Geneve Louis, was transported to Medical City Denton, where she succumbed to her injuries later that evening. A fifth victim, 35-year-old Junior Louis, passed away on Friday, August 30, after being among the seven passengers transported by ambulance with serious injuries. The ages of those injured range from 25 to 52.
Patrick Dorcant, a cousin of Pierre-Louis, remembered Antoine as a “hard-working guy” who was dedicated to supporting his family. He described his cousin, Pierre-Louis, in a similar way, saying, “He’s family-oriented and hard-working. He came to the United States to get an education.”
Tiffany Cuyler, who knew most of the people inside the van, recalled Geneve as “a sweet soul” and mentioned that Geneve had only been in the United States for “a little over three months.”
“My husband is Haitian. I have been in the Haitian community for well over two decades,” Cuyler shared, “so I know these people yearn to get here for a better life.”
Two other men, ages 33 and 35, were critically injured and airlifted to separate hospitals in Fort Worth, Harris Methodist Hospital, and John Peter Smith Hospital. Another passenger, a 44-year-old man, was hospitalized with minor injuries, according to the DPS.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Footage shared by KTVT showed the severely damaged white van resting on a patch of grass near the roadway. “The emotion is very high,” Dorcant said, reflecting the profound grief felt by those connected to the victims.
