Vegetable platters sold in seven states have been recalled over fears of potential salmonella contamination. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified the recall as Class I, its most severe category, indicating a “reasonable probability” that exposure to the product could result in serious health consequences or death.
States Affected
The recall involves four vegetable platter products distributed in Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. These platters, sold at Kroger stores, may contain cut cucumbers linked to an earlier recall for possible salmonella contamination.

Health Risks of Salmonella
Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause illness, with symptoms typically appearing 12 to 72 hours after consuming contaminated food. Common symptoms include diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, and vomiting, which generally resolve within a week. However, young children, elderly adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of severe complications, which can sometimes be fatal.
Details of the Recall
The Kroger Co. voluntarily initiated the recall on October 29, with the FDA classifying it as Class I on January 10. A total of 1,519 packages, packaged in plastic containers with plastic lids, are affected. Customers are urged to discard these platters, regardless of the use-by date, and refrain from consuming them.
The recall traces back to American cucumbers grown by Agrotato, S.A. de C.V., in Sonora, Mexico, which were distributed in the U.S. from October 12. The contaminated cucumbers have been linked to over 100 illnesses, including 25 hospitalizations.

FDA Statement
An FDA representative stated, “The U.S. food supply remains one of the safest in the world. Recalls and outbreaks indicate that manufacturers, importers, and distributors are actively monitoring for issues and taking action when problems are detected. Consumers should view recalls as a sign that problems are being addressed.”
Next Steps
The recall is ongoing. Consumers with questions are encouraged to contact their local FDA complaint coordinator for further information.
