“Two New Mexico Charter Schools Receive $2 Million in Grant Funding”
The Public Charter Schools of New Mexico (PCSNM) has announced $4 million in funding for two charter schools in New Mexico. The Sacramento School of Engineering and Science in Alamogordo and Equip Academy of New Mexico in Albuquerque will each receive $2 million in support.
The Sacramento School of Engineering and Science will be the first public charter school in Alamogordo and will focus on providing a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education. The funding will support the school, which will cater to students in grades 9 through 12.
Equip Academy of New Mexico, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade, is dedicated to offering culturally responsive education and creating a thriving community for its students. The school’s founder, Mercy Herrera, emphasizes the importance of fostering an inclusive environment where all students can excel.
The funding for both schools will come as subgrants from the Charter School Program grant, awarded to PCSNM by the U.S. Department of Education in 2023.
