Two Bay Area Hotels Named ‘America’s Most Haunted’ in 2024
It’s officially spooky season, and two Bay Area hotels have been named among ‘America’s Most Haunted’ for 2024 by Historic Hotels of America, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
First on the list is the Claremont Club & Spa in Berkeley. While known for its luxurious 4-star accommodations and breathtaking views, this 22-acre resort also has a reputation for eerie, unexplainable occurrences. According to Historic Hotels of America, guests at the Claremont have reported ghostly phenomena, such as phantom elevators and strange voices, especially on the fourth floor. Visitors have also experienced chilling encounters, including “extreme temperature changes” and cold spots in their rooms. Rumor has it that a peaceful ghost of a 6-year-old girl roams the halls, greeting guests at night with a soft “Hello.”
The second Bay Area hotel on the list is the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa, a 5-star resort nestled in Wine Country. Guests at this luxurious hotel have reported feeling as though they’re not alone at night, with reports of slamming doors, fleeting figures, and mysterious movements down hallways. The Round Room, in particular, is said to be the most haunted spot in the hotel, with reports of flickering lights, shadowy figures, strange noises, and running water when no one is around.
Additionally, another California hotel, the iconic Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, is known for its own share of supernatural phenomena, offering more ghostly encounters for visitors seeking a haunted experience.
Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or just looking for a luxurious stay with a spooky twist, these haunted hotels offer a blend of opulence and the supernatural.
