
AlamogordoTownNews.org provides an update on the recent Bulldog Relays held in Artesia, where athletes from Tularosa and Mescalero Apache showcased their talent in track and field events on Saturday.
Tularosa Wildcats Shine in Competition
The Tularosa boys’ team delivered strong performances, with Johnathan Greene securing first place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.89. Mason Garcia placed fourth in the 400 meters, clocking in at 59.03 seconds. In field events, Hector Saenz tied for ninth in shot put (30-07), while Robert Sanchez placed ninth in the long jump (16-03). Brock Chee competed in the 100 meters, finishing 11th (12.76), and Justin Morin ran the 200 meters, securing 16th place (27.42). Brooks Montoya placed eighth in javelin (79-09).
The Wildcats also excelled in relay events, taking first place in the 4×800 relay (10:00.78) with a team consisting of Brooks Montoya, Austin Perea, Brock Chee, and Johnathan Greene. The 1600 Sprint Medley team, made up of Mason Garcia, Justin Morin, Brock Chee, and Austin Perea, finished third with a time of 4:24.11.

The Tularosa girls’ team also had standout performances. Alivya Young dominated the discus event with a first-place throw of 97-01 and secured second place in shot put (30-05). Isdzane Valdez placed third in discus (68-08). Kayleigh Bigas earned third place in the 800 meters (2:50.23) and finished fourth in the 400 meters (1:13.76). In jumping events, Diana Casares took seventh in long jump (12-02.50) and ninth in the 300 hurdles (1:04.55). Casares also ran the 200 meters, placing 11th (31.92), while Bailey Perea finished 19th in the 100 meters (15.93).
Mescalero Apache Athletes Compete Strongly
The Mescalero Apache boys’ team had commendable finishes, with Avin Yellowcloud securing seventh place in shot put (31-09.50) and Drake Affuso placing eighth in the long jump (16-05.50). Affuso also competed in the 110 hurdles, finishing fifth (20.95), and took 13th in the 100 meters (12.82). Christian Little had strong finishes in both the 200 meters (10th, 26.65) and the 400 meters (14th, 1:02.45). Angelo Palmer completed the 800 meters in 2:58.38, earning 19th place.
On the girls’ side, Molly Pena competed in the 1600 meters, finishing eighth (7:30.11). In field events, Deandra McFadden placed eighth in shot put (21-03.25). She also ran the 400 meters, placing 23rd (1:33.82).
Looking Ahead to the Rose Relays
Tularosa Track and Field is set to host the Rose Relays on Saturday, where they will once again compete alongside Mescalero Apache athletes. Fans can anticipate another exciting weekend of track and field action.
