Tragic Crash on I-40: One Dead After Fiery Accident Forces Highway Shutdown
A serious crash in the East Mountains led to the closure of I-40 on Saturday.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident involved a passenger car and a semi-truck near the Zuzax exit, located approximately three miles east of Tijeras. Following the collision, both vehicles caught fire, prompting immediate response from the Bernalillo County Fire Department and sheriff’s deputies.
Authorities have confirmed that one person has died as a result of the crash. However, it remains unclear how long delays on the interstate will last as emergency responders continue to manage the scene and assess the situation.
