“Tractor-Trailer Crash Near AZ-NM Border Leaves 3 Dead, 2 Injured”
SAN SIMON, Ariz. (AP) — A collision near the Arizona-New Mexico border left three people dead and two others seriously injured, authorities reported on Sunday.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) said the crash occurred around 5 p.m. on Saturday on Interstate 10 near San Simon, a town located about 11 miles from the New Mexico state line.
The accident involved a tractor-trailer and another vehicle. DPS officials confirmed that three people traveling in the car were pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional occupants were seriously injured and were airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The tractor-trailer caught fire following the collision, but authorities have not yet confirmed whether the truck driver survived the crash.
As of Sunday, the names of the deceased and injured had not been released, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Two lanes of I-10 were closed until early Sunday as officials worked to clear the scene and gather evidence.
