TIME TO CHANGE: Costco shopper urges chain to make trio of policy changes – but they would have to take page out of rival’s book

Spread the love

According to THE SUN, A Costco shopper has taken to social media to urge the retailer to adopt several changes, inspired by rival Sam’s Club. Megan Gibson made a public appeal on Facebook, asking Costco to implement curbside pickup, free same-day delivery for Executive Members, and a Scan and Go feature in its app.

Shopper’s Request

“Please add curbside pickup and free same-day delivery for Executive Members at your earliest convenience,” Gibson wrote. She also expressed a desire for a Scan and Go option in the app. “I really love spending my money at your store, but Sam’s Club has really got you beat in these 3 major areas. Please don’t give me reasons to break up with you,” she added.

Gibson highlighted her commitment to Costco, comparing it to her long-standing marriage. “Second only to my marriage, my Costco membership is my most valued and longest-standing relationship. It’s not me, it’s definitely you,” she concluded.

Rising Membership Fees

Many Costco members have expressed dissatisfaction with recent membership fee increases. On September 1, Costco raised the regular membership fee from $60 to $65 per year and the Executive Membership fee from $120 to $130. This price hike has led some members to reconsider their subscriptions.

“I didn’t renew it. Not worth it, especially with how hard it is to shop and check out there,” one shopper commented on Facebook. This dissatisfaction has reportedly driven some customers to switch to Sam’s Club, which they find easier to navigate.

Sam’s Club Comparison

Sam’s Club offers a Scan & Go service, allowing customers to pay via an app and show an exit code to employees, making shopping more convenient. Costco shoppers have expressed a desire for a similar system. “I will not be renewing my membership until you get a self-scan app like @SamsClub,” one customer declared.

Checkout Complaints

Costco customers have also criticized the long lines at checkout. “For the first time, I abandoned my cart of stuff and walked out in frustration,” one angry shopper wrote on Facebook. They described waiting in lines that were “easily an hour and probably close to two hours,” leading them to switch their membership to Sam’s Club.
