A man is facing homicide charges following a fatal accident in Tijeras in March. State police discovered drug paraphernalia in his truck and a deceased individual on the ground. Body camera footage captures his statements to police before his arrest.

On March 6, New Mexico State Police (NMSP) responded to a crash on Highway 337 in Tijeras, but one of the drivers was missing. Officers located the driver of the black truck, identified as Juan Nuñez, walking toward the scene and subsequently took him into custody. The other driver was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. When questioned, Nuñez claimed he thought he had fallen asleep.

Upon searching his truck, NMSP found pipes and burned aluminum foil, indicative of drug use. After noticing signs of intoxication, officers decided to question him again, at which point Nuñez stated that he had stopped before the fatal collision.

Nuñez has pleaded not guilty to charges of homicide by vehicle and DUI. He is currently released under the supervision of pretrial services, with a trial date yet to be scheduled.
