According to The Sun, Americans may soon have the opportunity to claim a substantial payment of $2,500, all they need is a receipt. Individuals are encouraged to check their eligibility for a share of a $700,000 settlement resulting from a data breach involving the Henry Ford Health System.
Background of the Settlement
The settlement follows claims against the healthcare group after a data breach that occurred on March 30, 2023. According to Top Class Actions, the Michigan-based healthcare provider was accused of failing to adequately protect patients’ data, leading to a class action lawsuit. The lawsuit asserted that Henry Ford Health System should have implemented better cybersecurity measures to safeguard personal information.
While the medical group has agreed to settle the lawsuit, it has not admitted any wrongdoing.
Details of the Data Breach
The breach reportedly compromised the names, contact information, and medical details of approximately 168,000 individuals. Those affected have already been notified by Henry Ford Health System via mail.
Eligibility and Claim Amounts
Customers whose data may have been compromised during the breach are eligible to claim compensation. Class members can receive up to $2,500 to reimburse damages caused by the cybersecurity incident. Additionally, claimants may be entitled to a pro rata cash payment, which will depend on the total number of claims submitted.
