SSI Checks To Increase Now – It’s Official and This is the List of Americans Who Will Receive More Benefits
According to Lagradaonline, This week brings encouraging news for those who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced that millions of eligible beneficiaries will see an official increase in their payments in the coming months. The SSI program is designed to provide essential monthly benefits to low-income seniors aged 65 and older, individuals with disabilities, and children under specific financial circumstances. Thanks to a total payment of $1,100,000 to be distributed over the next three to six months, many beneficiaries will receive increased support. Here’s what you need to know about these new payments and the eligibility requirements.
Who is Eligible for the Increased SSI Benefits?
According to the SSA’s official website, only 400 beneficiaries will qualify for this increase, specifically those who are unable to work due to terminal illnesses. Qualifying conditions include chronic heart failure, kidney disease, leukemia, and various types of cancer. Additionally, the increase is intended to address instances where beneficiaries have received insufficient payments during the period between submitting an SSI application and receiving approval.
This new increase aims to compensate for underpayments, recognizing that beneficiaries with terminal conditions often have limited time. The increased amount will be reflected in monthly benefit payments within the next three to six months, but it will not exceed the maximum payment of $943 in 2024. Beneficiaries who do not qualify for this additional payment will continue to receive their regular SSI checks on the first day of every month.
SSI Payment Structure
Since the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program is not funded through payroll taxes, recipients receive benefits based on the filing category chosen during their application. According to current guidelines, individuals who file as singles can expect to receive an average of $943 per month, while couples can receive up to $1,425. Additionally, some beneficiaries may qualify for an extra monthly payment if they meet the essential person (EP) requirement, which would add $472 to their SSI checks.

SSI Payment Schedule for 2024
The Social Security Administration disburses SSI checks on the first day of every month, except when that day falls on a weekend. In such cases, the SSA reschedules the payment for the preceding business day. For example, beneficiaries did not receive SSI checks in September, as the first of the month fell on a weekend, resulting in payments being made on August 30. A similar scenario will occur in December; since January 1 is a federal holiday, payments will be issued at the end of December.
SSI payments | SSI payments date | Advanced payment |
---|---|---|
August | August 1st | August 30th (September 1st) |
September | – | – |
October | October 1st | – |
November | November 1st | November 29th (December 1st) |
December | – | December 31st (January 1st) |

A New Way to Apply for SSI Benefits
In a bid to enhance the application process, the Social Security Administration is gradually expanding its online benefits application system. By the end of 2025, a fully digital process for applying for SSI checks is expected to be in place. Currently, most applicants can initiate the process online by providing basic information; an SSA representative will then reach out to complete the application. Under the first phase of the new plan, expected to launch by late 2024, participants will be able to apply for another benefit first and then complete a streamlined SSI application through the iClaim system. By late 2025 or early 2026, all SSI claimants, including those applying based on age, will have access to the new “iSSI” option.
