SPEED AHEAD: Drivers to get payment in line with faulty engine part settlement – an internet check determines whether they get cash
According to The SUN, Drivers across the U.S. could be eligible for a share of a settlement if they own specific Mazda models. The payout stems from an engine fault that caused certain vehicles to consume more oil than normal.
Affected Models and the Settlement Details
The settlement includes models such as the 2021-22 Mazda CX-30, 2021 Mazda 6, and 2021 Mazda CX-5. The issue was traced to a faulty seal on a valve stem, leading drivers to incur additional costs for oil refills and changes. While Mazda has not admitted any wrongdoing, the company has agreed to address the claims made by affected drivers.
To check eligibility, drivers can input their vehicle identification number (VIN) into a designated database.
Claim Submission Timeline
Drivers have until November 30 to submit their claims, which can be done either online or via mail to a location in Seattle, Washington. Following a court hearing on September 16 to approve the settlement, claimants are advised to be patient, as claims and appeals may delay the distribution of payments.
It’s important to note that the deadline to object to the settlement has already passed, which was June 27.
Benefits for Eligible Drivers
Those entitled to compensation will receive several benefits, including:
- Replacement of the faulty valve stem.
- An extension of Mazda’s Powertrain Limited Warranty.
- Reimbursement for oil-related expenses.
- Repairs for loaned-out vehicles.
Additional Settlement for Fuel Pump Issues
This is not the only settlement Mazda is addressing. The company will pay approximately $172 million, potentially benefiting up to 1 million people. A lawsuit claimed that over 600,000 cars had fuel pumps that could fail, prompting a recall of more than 100,000 vehicles.
Under the terms of this settlement, Mazda will cover repair costs and extend warranties for affected drivers, as well as provide free towing services.
