According to THE SUN, A Walmart shopper has expressed frustration after being forced to abandon a full cart due to the retailer’s policy against tap-to-pay options. The incident highlights ongoing dissatisfaction with Walmart’s payment practices, particularly its refusal to accept popular digital payment methods like Apple Pay.
Shopper’s Experience
The shopper took to social media to vent their frustration, revealing that they left their wallet at home while shopping at Walmart. Despite having a cart full of groceries and clothing, they were unable to complete their purchase due to Walmart’s lack of support for Apple Pay.
“@Walmart start taking Apple Pay!” the shopper demanded in a post on X (formerly Twitter). They lamented the inconvenience of having to leave their full cart behind because they couldn’t use the payment method they had hoped for.

Growing Demand for Tap-to-Pay Options
Many Walmart customers across the US have been calling for the retailer to adopt tap-to-pay options. Despite the widespread use of digital payment methods like Apple Pay and Google Pay, Walmart has yet to accommodate these options, sticking instead with its own Walmart Pay system.
Critics of Walmart Pay argue that the app often malfunctions, leaving users unable to complete their transactions. “What’s the point of @Walmart pay if it never works?” one user commented, urging the retailer to modernize its payment systems.
Self-Checkout Complaints
The frustration with Walmart’s payment policies is compounded by other issues at its stores. Some customers have also criticized the 15-item limit imposed at self-checkout kiosks in certain locations. This limit, which is not nationwide, requires customers with more than 15 items to wait in long lines for a cashier.
“They removed cashiers for self-checkout. Now have a strict 15-item limit on those, with an employee actually counting,” one customer explained. “If you have more than 15 items, you have to wait in a very long line for one of the few cashiers. No more Walmart trips for me.”
Another shopper added, “I’m all about obeying rules, but if you’re going to have self-checkout only 15 items or less, you should have more than two cashiers working.”
