According to Kiplinger, The first Social Security payments for 2025 will start arriving in January. When beneficiaries receive their payments largely depends on their date of birth. However, there are specific rules for those who received Social Security benefits before May 1997 or for individuals who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). For these cases, Social Security payments are made on the 3rd of the month, while SSI payments are issued on the 1st. If a payment date falls on a federal holiday or weekend, beneficiaries can expect their payment on the nearest weekday prior to the holiday.

Estimated Average Monthly Social Security Check for 2025

Although the official cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) increase for 2025 has yet to be announced, economist David Payne from Kiplinger estimates that it could be around 2.5%.

As of August 2024, the average Social Security monthly check for all retirement beneficiaries was $1,920.48, according to the Social Security Administration (SSA). If the predicted COLA takes effect, beneficiaries would experience an annual increase of $576, translating to a monthly increase of $48.00. This would bring the average monthly benefit to approximately $1,968.48. While waiting for official confirmation of the 2025 COLA, beneficiaries can also explore average Social Security checks based on age.
