Social Security news: $943 in direct payments for September will be sent out in 15 days.
According to Washingtonexaminer, In just 15 days, millions of people living with disabilities will receive their Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment for September, which can be as much as $943. These payments, distributed on September 1, are designed to assist individuals whose disabilities significantly impact their income, as outlined by the Social Security Administration.
To qualify for SSI, applicants must be either partially blind or have a “physical or mental condition(s) that severely limits their daily activities for 12 months or more, or may be expected to result in death.”
The payment structure for September is as follows:
- Individual recipients: Up to $943 per month
- Couples filing jointly: Up to $1,415 per month
- Essential persons (those providing necessary care to SSI recipients): Up to $472 per month
Due to inflation, these amounts have increased by 3.2% compared to last year.
It’s important to note that SSI payments are separate from regular Social Security benefits. Receiving Social Security does not automatically make someone eligible for SSI, and vice versa.
Recipients can use the SSA’s online calculator to determine their specific payment amount.
