SHUTTING SHOP: Grocery chain confirms closure of its last store after 100 years with 15% off items – owners say sales weren’t to blame
According to THE SUN, A cherished Omaha grocery store, Wohlner’s Neighborhood Grocery and Deli, has announced its permanent closure. The decision comes as the current owners, Bob and Dianne Kimball, prepare for retirement.
In a heartfelt social media post, Bob Kimball shared, “This decision certainly wasn’t easy. After many years of serving this community, we feel it’s time to enjoy the next chapter of our lives. We’re incredibly grateful for the support of our loyal customers, who have become like family to us.”
To celebrate their 15 years at the current location, Wohlner’s is offering a 15 percent discount on all orders until the store closes. As of Wednesday, no official closing date has been set.

Community Reaction and Fond Memories
The announcement has elicited a wave of emotional responses from the community. Many took to the post’s comments to express their sadness and share their memories.
One former employee wrote, “I’ve worked there for 4 years; Bob and Diane are the best bosses ever. I’m going to miss my job.”
Another commenter reminisced, “So many fond memories of shopping there as a kid at the Leavenworth location, especially with my Grandpa. The old creaky floors and the meat counter bring back great memories.”
A third comment praised the owners: “Bob and Dianne are two of the best people I have ever met. Enjoy your next chapter and thank you both for everything you have done for others.”
The nostalgia was palpable, with one user recalling, “I grew up right around the corner from the 52nd and Leavenworth location. The smell of jerky and the creaky wood floors will always stay with me. The amazing staff knew my whole family.”
Other Recent Closures Shock the Community
Wohlner’s isn’t the only business to have left customers surprised by its sudden closure. Last week, Miracle City Harley-Davidson in Titusville, Florida, shut down after just five years in operation.
In a statement on social media, the dealership thanked the Titusville community for their support. “We would like to thank the local Titusville community and the local riding community for their years of support,” they wrote, as reported by Florida Today.
