Shoppers slam Walmart as ‘unhinged’ over payment method as customers threaten to boycott store
According to The Sun, Angry shoppers are voicing their frustration online and threatening to boycott Walmart due to the retail giant’s refusal to offer Apple Pay as a payment option. Customers are taking to social media to express their discontent, calling the situation “unhinged.”
Customer Outrage on Social Media
One disgruntled user posted on X (formerly Twitter), “This is why I don’t shop at Walmart,” expressing disbelief at the lack of quick payment services. Another user chimed in, “This is just ghetto and unhinged. How y’all don’t take Apple Pay?”
A further user threatened to switch to competitors, stating, “Can Walmart support Apple Pay? Like I’m gonna just start going to competitors.” Currently, Walmart does not accept Apple Pay for in-store, online, or self-checkout purchases.
Walmart’s Alternative Payment System
Instead of Apple Pay, Walmart has developed its own digital payment platform called Walmart Pay. To use it, customers must download the Walmart app, select their payment method, and then scan a QR code at the register. Walmart also accepts other payment methods, including credit/debit cards, cash, and gift cards.

Retail Giant Stands Alone
Walmart’s refusal to accept Apple Pay sets it apart from many other retailers, leading to heightened frustration among some shoppers. The U.S. Sun reached out to Walmart for comment, but the company did not provide an immediate response.
Checkout Woes Spark Further Complaints
The discontent doesn’t stop at payment methods. Customers have also reported frustrations with self-checkout systems. One Walmart shopper recounted a distressing experience where an employee began removing items from their cart during checkout.
In an X post from last month, the customer shared, “[The employee] then threw my Gatorade all over the floor,” leading them to abandon their cart containing around $200 worth of groceries.
Abandoned Carts: A Growing Trend
Walmart isn’t the only retailer facing issues with abandoned carts. A Sam’s Club shopper left behind a cart with $270 worth of items after being blocked from checkout, despite being a member. Similarly, a Kroger customer abandoned a cart with $200 in groceries over a recent change in checkout procedures.
