Rio Rancho , N.m. – A Rio Rancho woman has been arrested and charged with the shooting death of her wife. Authorities responded to reports of gunshots on Thursday evening, just before 6:30 p.m., near Willow Creek Rd. and Animas Ct. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her torso. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Police have taken Darlene Valencia-Dean into custody in connection with the incident. She is facing an open count of murder and other related charges. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing.
