Texas & New Mexico – On January 6, both Texas and New Mexico issued weather warnings, advising residents to prepare for potential severe cold weather this week.
The National Weather Service predicts Southern New Mexico, including Las Cruces and Roswell, will experience high temperatures in the low 40s and lows around 25°F. In addition to the cold temperatures, the region is expected to face high winds and scattered snow showers.
In light of these conditions, New Mexico officials are urging residents to dress warmly in heavy layers, ensure they heat their homes safely, check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and gather emergency supplies.
In Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has mobilized several emergency resources across the state in preparation for the icy weather. TxDOT crews have begun pre-treating roadways and are on standby for traffic control and potential road closures. The Texas A&M Forest Service is also ready to deploy saw crews to clear ice and snow from roads.
