“Santa Fe Police Arrest Two Known Retail Offenders at Target”
Two “known retail offenders” were arrested by Santa Fe Police on Sunday after an incident at Target on Zafarano Drive. The suspects, identified as Leonard Esquibel, 33, and Rayna Martinez, 23, were reportedly filling a shopping cart with merchandise when police arrived.
Officers discovered that Esquibel had eleven active arrest warrants, and Martinez had four. The pair attempted to escape through a fire exit at the back of the store but were intercepted by police. They then ran back inside, where they were eventually found hiding in the store’s warehouse area.
Both suspects were arrested and booked into the Santa Fe Adult Detention Center. Esquibel’s warrants included eight for shoplifting, one for receiving or transferring a stolen motor vehicle, one for battery, and one for robbery. Martinez’s warrants were for both misdemeanor and felony shoplifting.
In addition to their existing warrants, Esquibel and Martinez were charged with misdemeanor shoplifting and resisting, evading, or obstructing an officer in connection with the incident.
