Santa Clara County Coroner Investigates Death of 14-Year-Old Homeless Boy in San Jose, Rules Out Heat as Cause
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office is investigating the death of a 14-year-old homeless boy in San Jose. While the exact cause of death remains undetermined, officials have ruled out the recent heat wave as a factor.
During the first week of October, San Jose experienced temperatures exceeding 100 degrees, raising concerns about heat-related fatalities. The coroner’s office is currently looking into seven potential heat-related deaths reported between October 2 and October 7, two of which involved unhoused individuals.
“The Medical Examiner-Coroner is confirming an investigation into seven potential heat-related deaths. Of those, two involve the unhoused,” the coroner’s office said in a statement.
Local homeless advocates have speculated that the extreme heat may have contributed to the boy’s death, but coroner officials do not support this claim.
As of Tuesday, no further information has been released regarding the 14-year-old’s cause of death.
