San Jose Police Bust Illegal Gambling Den, Seize Guns and Drugs
The San Jose Police Department’s METRO units shut down an illegal gambling operation that was also dealing drugs from a residence in San Jose on Friday. The operation yielded both firearms and drugs.
The SJPD had been investigating ongoing narcotics sales linked to an illegal gambling den located in the 1400 block of Meadow Glen Way. Further investigation led officers to identify Glenn Jingco and Sophana El as the main suspects behind the operation.
On October 3, officers obtained and executed a search warrant at the Meadow Glen Way residence. Working alongside SJPD’s MERGE units, METRO units recovered a variety of illegal items, including:
- A loaded privately manufactured firearm without an identifiable serial number
- A short-barreled shotgun
- Multiple rounds of ammunition
- An unspecified amount of methamphetamine
- U.S. currency in various denominations
- Approximately seven illegal gambling machines
- Various drug paraphernalia
According to SJPD, both Jingco and El were prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior convictions. They were arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for operating an illegal gambling and narcotics establishment.
