“San Jose Planning Commission Approves New Costco Amid Community Concerns”
A proposed Costco location in West San Jose has gained approval from the city’s planning commission, moving it closer to realization despite community concerns over traffic safety. The next step involves discussions with the city council.
The new Costco is planned for a site near an upscale shopping center off Prospect Road, located at the border of San Jose and Saratoga.
At the planning commission meeting on Wednesday night, local residents expressed their worries that the megastore could pose risks for children attending nearby schools. In response, city officials outlined plans to widen the travel path on the west side of Lawrence Expressway by 4 to 8 feet and enhance crosswalks to improve safety.
However, officials from the nearby high school argue that these measures are insufficient.
According to Costco, the store is projected to create between 250 and 300 jobs for the San Jose community.
