Reno Approves $3.4 Million Affordable Housing Project at Old Record Street Shelter, Completion Set for 2026
The Reno City Council has approved a plan for Ulysses Development Group to transform the former homeless shelter on Record Street into 136 affordable housing units, despite mixed public reactions and ongoing negotiations.
In a close vote, the council selected Ulysses Development Group to spearhead the project, which involves purchasing the property for $3.4 million over the next 15 years. Ulysses aims to complete the redevelopment by November 2026. This decision followed the evaluation of several proposals for the site, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.
The Community Assistance Center, which once served as a homeless shelter, was shut down in 2021 and had since become a target for vandalism. The city reviewed a variety of redevelopment ideas for the property, ranging from mixed-income housing to office spaces. Ultimately, Ulysses Development’s focus on affordable housing and competitive offer helped them secure the project.
