Residents of Redwood City are on high alert following a recent daylight robbery, prompting local authorities to advise the community to exercise caution. The Redwood City Police Department reported that around 9 a.m. yesterday, a woman was targeted by scammers while tending to her garden on Madrone Street.
The incident unfolded as the victim was watering plants and was approached by individuals in a dark SUV seeking directions. As she offered assistance, a female suspect used a guise of gratitude to deceive her, placing a medallion around the victim’s neck, which distracted her long enough for the suspect to remove one of her gold necklaces. The suspects quickly fled the scene following the theft.
According to the police description, the suspects include a woman, believed to be Middle Eastern and between the ages of 50 and 60, who was wearing a head covering, and a male driver estimated to be between 45 and 50 years old and weighing approximately 250 pounds. Both were last seen driving a dark-colored SUV.
The names of those involved have not been released, but local authorities are using this incident to warn residents about a rise in similar scams across the Bay Area. Community members are encouraged to be cautious when approached by strangers and to report any suspicious activity. In emergencies, residents should dial 911, and for non-urgent matters, the police department’s non-emergency line is (650)780-7100.
