According to News Week, The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified several products sold by Supreme Service Solutions LLC in Kroger stores with the highest risk level following concerns of contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria Contamination: Serious Health Risks

The products, including guacamole, peppers, and various vegetables, are suspected of being contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. This bacterium can lead to listeriosis, a potentially life-threatening infection. Healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. However, for young children, the elderly, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women, the infection can be fatal or lead to miscarriages and stillbirths.

Class 1 Recall: Highest FDA Risk Level

On September 17, the FDA announced that 11 out of 19 recalled products had been classified as Class 1, which is defined as: “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.” Consumers are advised to discard the affected products immediately.

Recent Listeria Outbreak: Boar’s Head Deli Meats

This recall follows a separate Listeria outbreak in August, which resulted in nine deaths and 57 hospitalizations across 18 states. The outbreak was connected to Boar’s Head deli meats, including Ready-to-Eat Liverwurst products produced between June 11 and July 17, 2024.

Recalled Products List

The FDA has classified several items from the recall as high risk, including chunky guacamole, pico-guac combo, snacking peppers with onions, tri-blend vegetables, grilling vegetables, kebabs, and vegetable bowls.
