President Joe Biden Removed from New Mexico Ballot, Kamala Harris Becomes Sole Democratic Candidate
According to Sandovalsignpost, President Joe Biden was officially removed from the New Mexico ballot for the upcoming Nov. 5 general election before the Aug. 27 deadline, leaving Vice President Kamala Harris as the only Democratic candidate in the state.
Despite securing victory in New Mexico’s primary election in June, President Biden submitted the necessary paperwork to withdraw his name from the general election ballot. According to the Secretary of State’s Office spokesman Alex Curtas, Vice President Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will now represent the Democratic Party in the state.
Under New Mexico state law, Biden’s primary win in June only secured delegates for the Democratic National Convention, where the formal nomination process took place. After withdrawing from the race, Biden released his pledged delegates, allowing them to allocate their votes at the convention, along with the unpledged delegates.
Recent polling conducted earlier this month in New Mexico shows Vice President Harris leading with 47% support, while Republican candidate Donald Trump has garnered 41% of the vote.
