“Police Search for 4 Suspects in Los Altos Home Break-In Using Candy Trick”
The Los Altos Police Department is actively searching for four suspects connected to a home burglary that took place over the weekend, according to a recent news release. The incident occurred between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on September 28 at a residence located on the 700 block of Covington Road.
Authorities reported that three male suspects entered the home by smashing a glass door in the backyard. However, they were quickly scared off by the occupants who were inside at the time. No items were stolen, but the suspects managed to escape in a newer gray Dodge Durango with tinted windows and no license plate.
Before the break-in, surveillance footage captured a female suspect at the front door of the home, holding a box of candy. Investigators believe this was an attempt to see if anyone was inside. When no one answered, the three male suspects proceeded to enter the residence.
The Los Altos Police Department released the following descriptions of the suspects:
- Suspect 1: A Hispanic or African American female with a medium to heavy build, curly/frizzy hair in a ponytail, wearing a black sweatshirt, blue pants, and a light-colored medical mask.
- Suspect 2: A male (race unknown) with a slim build, dressed in a gray sweatshirt, black pants, black gloves, a medical mask, and white sneakers.
- Suspect 3: A male (race unknown) with a slim build, wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, possible gray sweatpants, a white medical mask, and black gloves.
- Suspect 4: A male (race unknown) with a slim build, dressed in a light-colored sweatshirt, black pants, red boxer-style underwear, a medical mask, and black gloves.
Fortunately, the occupants of the home were not harmed. Investigators suspect that the same group may be linked to a similar burglary in Hillsborough, which occurred roughly an hour earlier.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Los Altos Police Department at 650-947-2770. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call 650-947-2774.
