PG&E Warns of Possible Power Shutoffs in Bay Area Starting Thursday

PG&E has issued a warning to customers in five Bay Area counties that they may face power outages due to an elevated wildfire risk. The utility is considering implementing Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) for parts of Alameda, Contra Costa, Napa, Solano, and Sonoma counties.

The potential power shutoffs could begin on Thursday, October 17. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for much of the Bay Area, lasting from Thursday night through Saturday evening, due to dry and windy conditions that increase the risk of wildfires spreading rapidly.

In response to the Red Flag Warning, fire departments across the Bay Area are preparing for potential emergencies. PG&E emphasizes that power shutoffs are a preventive measure to lower the risk of wildfires caused by energized power lines.
