Peninsula Mobile Home Fire Caused by Faulty Bathroom Fan, $10K in Damages
Mountain View Fire Department (MVFD) crews are attributing a mobile home fire on Saturday to a malfunctioning bathroom fan, which caused thousands of dollars in damage.
Firefighters received a 911 call shortly after 4:30 a.m. about a fire at a mobile home on the 1000 block of Space Park Way. Both residents had safely evacuated the home before fire crews arrived, MVFD reported.
Although firefighters arrived within 15 minutes of the 911 call, a Mountain View Police Department officer reached the scene first. The officer used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames in an electrical exhaust fan, according to officials.
Once on scene, MVFD conducted an “extensive overhaul,” cutting open the mobile home’s ceiling to inspect for any remaining fire and ensure it was completely extinguished.
The residents received a $250 gift card from the California Professional Firefighters Union’s Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency (SAVE) program, according to the city of Mountain View.
MVFD estimated the fire caused about $10,000 in damages. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and the two residents were able to return to their home after the fire was controlled.
