PACKED UP: Popular moving company handing out $600 checks after $1.6m settlement – but you must have received a phone call to claim

According to THE SUN, Consumers have just a short time left to claim up to $600 from a $1.6 million class action settlement involving 1-800-PACK-RAT. The moving container company allegedly recorded consumer calls without proper consent, violating California’s two-party consent laws. Though 1-800-PACK-RAT denies wrongdoing, they have agreed to settle the case to avoid further litigation.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for compensation, individuals must have:

  • Resided in California.
  • Received a call from 1-800-PACK-RAT’s customer service department between September 27, 2021, and October 10, 2022.

Claim Details

Class members can receive approximately $100 per qualifying call. Those who provide their tax identification number can receive payments totaling over $600. Without this information, the maximum payout is capped at $600.

  • Claim Filing Deadline: Only two days remain to submit your claim.
  • Exclusion and Objection Deadline: August 7, 2024.
  • Final Approval Hearing: Scheduled for October 4, 2024.
