The stunning state of the bronze medal that American skateboarder Nyjah Huston just received in the men’s street skateboarding competition at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 has gone viral.

The Olympian expressed his displeasure on social media about the subpar quality of the coveted gold he won in Paris. According to him, the medal was of low quality and had already begun to chip.

The athlete from Laguna Beach shared a video of the bronze medal in the street skateboarding competition fading on his Instagram story on Thursday. The video was taken ten days after the athlete won it.

“These Olympic medals look great when they’re brand new,” Huston said in a comment on one of the photographs he uploaded. “However, they’re clearly not as great quality as you’d assume after letting them lay on my skin with some perspiration and then letting my friends wear them over the weekend. Parts of the back are totally chipped away, and the front is starting to chip off.”

Nyjah Huston asserted, “Medal looks like it went to war and back,” in reference to the medal’s appearance during combat.

Huston’s viral post caught the attention of Olympic organizers, who confirmed to the Daily Mail that “Paris 2024 is aware of a social media report from an athlete whose medal is showing damage a few days after it was awarded.”

The group in responsibility of producing and ensuring the quality of the medals is collaborating with the event organizers. They are attempting to “appraise the medal to understand the circumstances and cause of the damage” in collaboration with Huston’s National Olympic Committee.
