New Mexico’s Response to Supreme Court Ruling on Homeless Encampments
According to Krqe, American cities, counties, and states are entering a new phase in their approach to homelessness following a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling. In June, the Court’s decision in the case of Grants Pass vs. Johnson paved the way for cities across the country to enforce bans on individuals sleeping outside in public spaces.
This ruling grants local governments increased authority to address homeless encampments in public areas. What implications does this have for New Mexico? How are local officials responding to this significant Supreme Court decision?
On this week’s podcast, Gabby and Chris are joined by Professor Joshua Kastenberg from the UNM School of Law. Professor Kastenberg provides an in-depth analysis of the Supreme Court’s ruling and offers insights into how major cities are tackling the issue.
