New Mexico Starts Construction on Abortion Clinic Near Texas Border
Construction has officially begun on a new abortion clinic in Las Cruces, New Mexico, located close to the state’s southeastern border with Texas.
New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham emphasized that the clinic will stand as a testament to the state’s dedication to protecting reproductive rights, not only for New Mexico residents but also for individuals traveling from states where abortion access has been severely restricted.
In 2022, the governor’s office allocated $10 million in state funding for the clinic’s construction. While abortion remains legal in New Mexico, neighboring states such as Texas and Oklahoma have enacted strict limitations on the procedure, leading many to seek reproductive health services across state lines.
