New Mexico Receives $33 Million for Airport Infrastructure Upgrades
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is providing $33,494,691 in federal funding to enhance airports across New Mexico, thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This funding aims to modernize airport facilities, boost local economies, and improve travel experiences for residents.
A major portion of this funding, $15.7 million, will be used to construct a new 21,000-square-foot terminal at Clovis Regional Airport. An additional $2.5 million will be allocated to reconstruct a taxiway at Raton Municipal Airport, according to a press release from U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich, D-New Mexico.
Earlier this year, in February, Clovis Regional Airport received $3.5 million in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding from the FAA to begin creating a new terminal. The latest funding will fully support the terminal’s completion.
“When we invest in New Mexico’s airports, we invest in the people who rely on these facilities to do business, create jobs, and contribute to our economy,” said Heinrich. “I’m proud to welcome this funding from the Infrastructure Law to complete the Clovis Regional Airport terminal and enhance airports statewide. I will continue to advocate for modernizing terminals, improving traveler experiences, and driving New Mexico’s economic growth.”
Senator Ben Ray Lujan, D-New Mexico, also emphasized the importance of ongoing infrastructure investments for the state’s growth.
“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is delivering millions of dollars and creating jobs across New Mexico,” Lujan said. “This $33 million will help improve airports, connect communities, boost tourism, and strengthen local economies. I will keep working to secure more infrastructure funding for our communities.”
U.S. Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez, D-New Mexico, highlighted how the funding will support economic growth.
“These airport upgrades across my district will create jobs, support businesses, and connect our communities,” she said. “This is exactly the type of investment I envisioned when voting for the Infrastructure Law.”
Rep. Melanie Stansbury, D-New Mexico, expressed excitement about the positive impact on connectivity within the state.
“I’m thrilled New Mexico’s airports will receive much-needed infrastructure upgrades, all thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,” Stansbury said. “Airports bring economic opportunities and keep families connected. We must keep investing in infrastructure to ensure opportunities for New Mexicans.”
Additionally, Rep. Gabe Vasquez, D-New Mexico, pointed to the benefits for rural communities.
“Upgrading our airports, from Double Eagle in Albuquerque to rural airports in Zuni and Lea County, enhances safety for travelers and creates economic opportunities,” Vasquez said. “Modern infrastructure helps businesses compete, and rural New Mexicans deserve these resources. I’m proud to have helped pass the FAA Reauthorization Act, which includes provisions to restore commercial air service to underserved rural communities.”
This investment underscores the federal government’s commitment to improving critical infrastructure and supporting New Mexico’s economic development.
