New Mexico Offers Free PFAS Well Testing for Select Households
NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The New Mexico Environment Department is offering free water testing for PFAS contamination to residents near Cannon Air Force Base. This initiative follows public testimonies from residents during a meeting with the department last month.
Despite contamination being confirmed in 2018, the federal government has yet to clean up the PFAS chemicals, which are often found in firefighting foams.
Testing is available to up to 150 households on a first-come, first-serve basis, with testing set to begin in October.
Neighbors of Cannon Air Force Base are fatigued and frustrated with the U.S. Department of Defense marginalizing their physical and mental health every time they use their well water. My message to the residents who live around Cannon Air Force Base is simple: you and your families deserve safe drinking water. We will do everything in our power to make sure that you get it.
