New Mexico Man Faces 11-Count Federal Indictment for Assaulting and Killing Native American Victims
According to KRQE New charges have been filed against Labar Tsethlikai, 51, who is accused of sexually assaulting and killing Native American men in New Mexico over several years. Tsethlikai faces an 11-count federal indictment, which includes charges that could result in life imprisonment or even the death penalty.
Alexander Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, stated, “The indictment includes allegations that span several years and involve approximately six different named victims. The charges range from kidnapping resulting in death to first-degree murder, sexual assault, and abuse.”
The indictment names six victims, all of whom are Native American. Uballez indicated that Tsethlikai allegedly targeted vulnerable individuals, including those who were homeless or struggling with addiction.
“There may be more victims,” Uballez added.
The case against Tsethlikai has involved collaboration between city, county, and state agencies, with significant support from the Justice Department’s Missing or Murdered Indigenous People program. “Our success relies on working closely with our partners,” Uballez said.
Authorities are now seeking public assistance to uncover additional victims. Investigators believe Tsethlikai used a brownish-gold Chevy Silverado to facilitate the crimes and are requesting tips from the public. Tsethlikai, known for his work as a Zuni jewelry artist in the Native American jewelry industry, will remain in custody until his trial.
