ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The man accused of orchestrating a string of shootings targeting New Mexico lawmakers has been convicted on all counts. Solomon Peña, a former Republican candidate for the New Mexico House of Representatives, was found guilty on 13 federal charges in connection to the politically motivated attacks, which authorities say were carried out in retaliation for his 2022 election loss.
The shootings occurred between December 4, 2022, and January 3, 2023, targeting the homes of Bernalillo County Commissioners Adriann Barboa and Debbie O’Malley, New Mexico House Speaker Javier Martinez, and State Senator Linda Lopez. Investigators uncovered the plot after Jose Louise Trujillo was pulled over in early 2023, linking Peña and Demetrio Trujillo to the attacks.
Peña has remained behind bars for the past two years while awaiting trial. With his conviction, he now faces the possibility of a life sentence.

Following the verdict, several lawmakers who were victims of the attacks released statements emphasizing the importance of justice and condemning political violence.
Senators Linda Lopez and Debbie O’Malley, along with Commissioner Adriann Barboa, issued a joint statement:
“No one should ever experience the fear and trauma of having their home targeted by gunfire. Our homes are meant to be safe havens, free from the threats of violence. We are grateful the jury delivered justice, making it clear that such acts of intimidation will not be tolerated.”
House Speaker Javier Martinez also responded:
“This conviction reaffirms that political violence has no place in New Mexico. My family and I are relieved that justice was served, and I remain committed to making our communities safer and fostering an environment where we can respect differing viewpoints without fear.”
With the case concluded, Peña now awaits sentencing, where he could receive the maximum penalty of life in prison for his role in the attacks .
