According to KRQE On Monday, the New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA) announced a significant policy change, eliminating program fees for child support services. This move is intended to make it easier for more parents and guardians in separate households to access support through the Child Support Services Division (CSSD).
According to CSSD Director Betina Gonzales McCracken, the fee elimination is part of a broader effort to reach more eligible New Mexicans and facilitate the application process. “We would like to reach as many eligible New Mexicans as possible and help them apply for our services so we can begin the process of establishing parentage, and creating or modifying child support orders for the child’s well-being,” McCracken stated in a news release. She highlighted that the previously required fees, which could total up to $1,000, are no longer part of the application process.
Parents and guardians interested in applying for child support services can do so online via the YES.NM.GOV site. Applications are also available on the HCA website. Alternatively, individuals can request an application be mailed to them by calling the HCA consolidated customer service center at 1-800-283-4465, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
