New Mexico Expands SNAP Benefits: $135 Extra for 11,834 Residents
According to KRQE, an additional $135 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will be provided to 11,834 New Mexicans. This extra support is being delivered through a partnership between the New Mexico Human Services Department (HSD) and the Aging and Long-Term Services Department (ALTSD) to assist adults over 60 and those with disabilities who are enrolled in SNAP.
The one-time benefit will be distributed throughout June to individuals who received the SNAP State Supplement in February of this year. This initiative aims to alleviate food insecurity among vulnerable populations in the state.
Funding for this extra benefit comes from the state general fund. Eligible recipients do not need to take any action; the additional amount will be automatically loaded onto their EBT cards. For any questions regarding these SNAP benefits, individuals are advised to contact the Human Services Department at 1-800-283-4465.
