Voter Registration and Absentee Voting
Not sure if you’re registered? You can check your voter registration status on the New Mexico Secretary of State’s website. Additionally, New Mexico offers no-excuse absentee voting, meaning any registered voter can request an absentee ballot. Absentee ballots can be mailed back or returned in person at any county polling location on Election Day.
Election Day Voting
On Election Day, polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. If you missed the registration deadline, you can still register on Election Day through Same Day Registration (SDR). SDR is available at your County Clerk’s office, polling locations, and certain early voting sites.
To register using SDR, you’ll need one of the following:
- A New Mexico driver’s license or ID card.
- Any document with an address in your county plus a photo ID.
- A valid student photo ID from a New Mexico post-secondary institution, along with a current student fee statement showing your address in the county.
Absentee Voting Process
To vote by absentee ballot, you’ll need to fill out and submit an application to your local County Clerk. Applications are available online and can be submitted by mail. Once your application is approved, your ballot will be mailed to you. You can check the status of your absentee ballot application on the New Mexico Secretary of State’s website.
