New Mexico is set to experience another night of widespread rainfall. Although temperatures have cooled slightly, they are expected to rise again in the coming days.

This afternoon has already seen showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the mountainous regions of New Mexico. As the evening progresses, rain will become more intense and widespread. Areas in northern, central, and western New Mexico can anticipate isolated showers tonight. The heaviest rainfall will be concentrated along the Sangre de Cristo and Sacramento Mountains. In response to the expected downpours, the National Weather Service has issued Flood Watches for the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon and Ruidoso burn scars. These watches will remain in effect through the evening of August 13th.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, New Mexico will begin to dry out as upper-level winds shift to the west. Storm chances are expected to decrease, with the best chance for rain later in the week confined to the mountainous areas. Alongside the drying conditions, temperatures across the state will start to rise again. Albuquerque could see temperatures reaching as high as 99 degrees, and southern New Mexico is likely to return to triple-digit highs by the weekend.
