New double Social Security payment coming before end of year – and it’s down to technicality in the system
According to The Sun, Millions of Americans will receive two Social Security payments in one month before the year is out. More than seven million people across the U.S. benefit from Supplemental Security Income (SSI), with the maximum monthly payment for individuals set at $943.
Who Qualifies for SSI?
SSI benefits are distributed to seniors over 65 years old, as well as disabled adults and children. Payments are typically allocated on the first of every month. However, beneficiaries may receive two payments in a month due to certain scheduling conflicts, such as when the 1st falls on a weekend.
Recent and Upcoming Payment Schedule
In 2024, SSI beneficiaries received two payments in May and August, and they are set to receive two checks in November. The payment schedule for November is as follows:
- First Payment: November 1, 2024
- Second Payment: November 29, 2024
It’s important to note that Americans will not receive an SSI check on Sunday, December 1, but they will receive a payment on December 31.
Maximum Payment Amounts
Individuals can receive a maximum SSI check of $943, while couples can receive up to $1,415. However, the amount an SSI claimant receives can vary by state. For example, claimants in Arkansas, Mississippi, and North Dakota do not receive additional benefits, whereas states like Florida and New York provide extra assistance to SSI recipients.

Eligibility for SSI Payments
Social Security officials indicate that Americans may be eligible for SSI checks if their assets are valued at no more than $2,000. Individuals aged 18 to 65 can apply for these benefits, provided they reside in one of the 50 states and have not received SSI payments previously.
Factors Affecting SSI Payments
There are several factors that could lead to a reduction in SSI payments. For instance, income from work—whether from self-employment or contracted work—can impact the amount received. Additionally, SSI payments may be reduced if individuals are already receiving other forms of disability or unemployment benefits.
Other Social Security Payments
It’s essential to note that SSI is not the only Social Security payment available. Social Security benefits are issued monthly, but the payment date varies based on the recipient’s birthdate:
- Birthdates between the 1st and 10th: Payments are issued on the second Wednesday of the month.
- Birthdates between the 11th and 20th: Payments are issued on the third Wednesday of the month.
- Birthdates between the 21st and 31st: Payments are issued on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
Staying informed about these payment schedules can help beneficiaries manage their finances more effectively.
