NEW CASH IS COMING: Americans in line for payment worth up to $4k from data breach settlement
According to THE SUN, A group of consumers affected by the Acrisure data breach in 2022 can claim a one-time payout of up to $4,000, but they only have a few weeks to act. Acrisure, a financial technology and insurance brokerage company, has settled a class-action lawsuit after allegations that it failed to protect customer data.
Details of the Data Breach
The breach compromised sensitive personal information, exposing consumers to potential financial harm. The lawsuit claimed that Acrisure did not implement adequate cybersecurity measures to prevent the incident. While the company, which generates $4.3 billion in revenue, has not admitted to any wrongdoing, it has agreed to a settlement to resolve the claims.

Eligibility and Claims Process
Eligible individuals who received a class-action settlement notice due to their personal information being compromised in December 2022 can claim up to $4,000 in compensation. This amount covers:
- Fraud or Identity Theft Losses: Reimbursement for money lost due to fraud or identity theft.
- Credit Expenses and Professional Fees: Compensation for credit-related costs and fees for professionals hired to address the breach.
- Lost Time: Payment of $25 per hour for up to four hours lost due to the breach.
In addition to cash compensation, claimants can receive two years of credit monitoring and identity protection services. To claim these benefits, individuals must provide receipts or documentation of their losses, such as tax statements, fraud claims, or invoices.
Important Deadlines
The deadline to submit a claim form is October 15, 2024. This is also the final date for those who wish to object to the settlement terms or exclude themselves from the settlement. Excluding oneself means forfeiting the cash payout but retaining the right to pursue future legal action regarding the claims.
Final Approval Hearing
A final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for November 8, 2024, in Kent County, Michigan.
