Nationwide Candy Recall Due to Salmonella Contamination Risk
According to Newsnationnow Candy sold across 17 states is being recalled due to potential salmonella contamination. Palmer Candy Company, based in Sioux City, Iowa, initiated the recall of its “white coated confectionary items” in May. On August 6, the FDA elevated the recall to “Class I” status, the highest level of urgency for product recalls.
The affected products include Palmer Candy’s Munchy Medley, Classic Yogurt Pretzels, Caramel Swirl Pretzel, Zebra Fudge Cookies, Frosted Pretzels, and Patriotic Pretzels, among others. These items were distributed through major retailers such as Walmart, Target, Dollar General, and Hy-Vee in the following states: Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
The FDA reports that no illnesses have been linked to the recalled products. Production of the affected items has been halted.
Salmonella contamination can lead to symptoms such as fever, stomach cramps, and diarrhea, typically lasting between four to seven days, according to the CDC.
