MONEY MAKER: Americans in line to get check up to $7,200 from $3.25m data breach settlement – all you need is a bill to get cash
According to THE SUN, Americans may be eligible for a payment of over $7,000 following a $3.25 million settlement related to a data breach involving See Tickets, a ticketing service that sells about 20 million tickets annually. While the company denied any wrongdoing, it agreed to the settlement to resolve the lawsuit.
The lawsuit claims that hackers stole payment card information in a September 2023 cyberattack due to the company’s failure to protect consumer data.
Eligible individuals can receive up to $2,000 in reimbursement for expenses such as bank fees, communication charges, interest on loans, credit expenses, and travel costs related to the breach. Additionally, class members may claim up to $5,000 for extraordinary losses, including damages resulting from identity theft or fraud.
Participants in the lawsuit can also choose between three years of free credit monitoring or a pro-rata payment of up to $100. Those in a subclass of affected individuals from California are eligible for an additional $100 payment, which may be reduced depending on the number of claims filed.
Important Deadlines
The deadline for class members to exclude themselves or object to the settlement is September 20, 2024. A final approval hearing is scheduled for December 16, 2024. Individuals who believe they are eligible must file a valid claim by October 20, 2024, with proof of their losses, such as account statements, invoices, receipts, loan documents, or police reports.
In other news, IGK, a haircare brand, has agreed to an $850,000 settlement over claims that some of its dry shampoo sprays contain high levels of benzene, a harmful carcinogen linked to cancers like leukemia. The company did not admit to any wrongdoing but agreed to resolve the lawsuit.
Additionally, St. Croix Regional Medical Center in Wisconsin has reached a $225,000 settlement over allegations that it charged patients excessive fees for accessing their medical records.
