“Men’s Golf Secures 5th Place Finish at RJGA South Central Shootout”
The Western New Mexico University (WNMU) Men’s Golf Team kicked off their fall season by hosting the RJGA South Central Shootout at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Golf Course in Mescalero, New Mexico, from September 30 to October 1, 2024. After three rounds of competitive play, the Mustangs secured an impressive 5th place finish with a total score of 889 (+25), posting rounds of 288, 297, and 304.
Leading the charge for WNMU was Arnav Arkanath (Milton Keynes, GB/Sir Henry Floyd HS), who delivered a standout performance. Arkanath tied for 2nd place individually with a score of 214 (-2), shooting rounds of 68, 71, and 75. Close behind was Noa Tissot (La Tour-De-Peilz, Switzerland/Lavau Institute HS), who placed 9th, finishing with a score of 217 (+1) after rounds of 70, 73, and 74.
Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) secured a tie for 28th with a total score of 228 (+12), while Jayden Schmitz (Oro Valley, AZ/Ironwood Ridge HS) finished tied for 33rd at 231 (+15). Rounding out the Mustangs’ lineup, Tomas Ribeiro (Porto Seguro, BR/Evolução Centro HS) tied for 37th with a final score of 235 (+19).
Looking ahead, the Mustangs will head to Texas for their next event, competing in the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational from October 7-8, 2024, at the Amarillo Country Club in Amarillo.
