“Men’s Golf Aims to Build on Momentum at RJGA South Central Shootout”

The Fort Lewis men’s golf team is continuing its fall season this week as the Skyhawks head to Mescalero, New Mexico, for the second consecutive year to compete in the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association’s South Central Shootout, taking place on Monday and Tuesday.

Tournament Details:

The Skyhawks will feature the same lineup as last week, with Jordan Jennings, Jake Chesler, Traejan Andrews, Tyler Tyson, and Carson Kerr hitting the course. Jennings led the team at the previous event in West Point, Mississippi, finishing with an even par of 216, securing seventh place. Andrews followed closely with a five-over 221, tying for 17th place. As a team, Fort Lewis finished 20 strokes over par, totaling 884 at the Mossy Oak Golf Club.

Ronald Kildall III and Jackson Rottschafer will make their 2024-25 season debuts as unattached individuals in the tournament. Last season, Kildall III was the only Skyhawks competitor at the NCAA Men’s Golf West South Central Super Regional.

This week, Fort Lewis will face off against Lone Star Conference and regional rivals, including teams from Lubbock Christian, Western New Mexico, West Texas A&M, Texas Permian Basin, Texas A&M International, and William Jessup. The tournament will also feature junior college programs like the New Mexico Military Institute and Mesalands Community College.

In last year’s South Central Shootout, the Skyhawks finished seventh out of 11 teams with a score of 884, 20 strokes over par. Kerr and Kildall III both earned top 20 finishes, tying for 18th and 20th place, respectively, with scores of two-over 218 and three-over 219.

The Inn of the Mountain Gods course, named one of Golf Digest’s Top 40 Casino Golf Courses, spans 7,212 yards from the black tees. It features a par of 72, a course rating of 72.6, and a slope rating of 132.

Looking Ahead: Fort Lewis will continue its fall campaign at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational, hosted by West Texas A&M, at the Amarillo Country Club next Monday and Tuesday, October 7-8.
